3) Individual Healing & Growth also Impacts the "Whole"
We are interconnected and each have our piece to contribute
As an Integrative Breathwork practioner, I (Mili) have often stated just prior to participants beginning their breathwork muscial journeys, "May the inner work you do today be for the good of yourself as well as the good of the Whole," based on the premise that what best serves each individual's growth and healing also serves the Whole.
Psychospiritual counselor and author Sharon Mijares expresses this notion eloquently in her book, The Psychospiritual Clinician's Handbook:
"True spirituality manifests in love and compassion – at ever deepening levels. This is the core of psychospiritual therapy. If the therapist’s heart has opened to these divine qualities, he or she can reflect them to the client. This sacred holding allows the client to absorb a deeper felt sense of healing." (Mijares, 2005, p. 92)
"A psychospiritual outlook must focus not only on whole persons but also on a whole world. The new era now dawning will not separate the individual’s health from the health of the planet. It will not divide intellectual, emotional, and moral health from the health of the human body and the planet. We now know how tightly all of this life is connected…Ultimately, along with some of my colleagues, I would expect a return to the etymological roots of the word psychotherapy, which would be translated “soul care,” in which the soul is not just human but also a dimension of the communities in which we live and the world as a whole. The purpose of soul care would be to enrich life and not just prevent or treat problems." (Mijares, 2005, p. xxiii)
Each of us on the inward journey of self-exploration, discovery, and acceptance has the opportunity to make a difference for ourselves, those we touch and thus serve directly in our lives, our communities, and our world as a whole. Soul work is needed now more than ever. We each have the opportunity to participate consciously in this beautiful awakening...for our own good and for the good of the whole.
